Apps are all around us these days, and, luckily, there’s a market out there serving our littles! Here’s my list of my sweet family’s Top 9 Apps for Pre-K to help guide you and (hopefully) give you peace of mind knowing that a real mama has already been there. We use most of these once a day as a supplement for our homeschooling. I’m sure there are so so many, but, you know, when you find something that works you stick with it!
1.ABC Mouse App: $ Monthly Subscription/Age: 2+
My babes have really enjoyed ABC mouse! I love that it’s so interactive. The levels take a while to complete and the student gets a certificate that you can print for feels at the end of every one. There are a variety of different lessons including coloring, connect the dots, letter balloon pop, lots of puzzles, songs, stories, and more. Plus it’s cheap! Right now I think that I pay around 12$ a month, and considering I have 3 kiddos using it…4$ a kid is not too bad! This fun app is also long term. My seven year old is still using this! If you want to try it out below is a link for you to try it out for month for FREE!
2. Tiny Hands App: $ One-time fee or FREE Lite version/ Age: 2+
Tiny Apps is actually a conglomerate of several downloadable apps. You can purchase a single app or a bundle. I purchased two bundle with each package containing 2-4 separate apps. I think that it cost me around 5$ per bundle. The price may have changed since I purchased, but still getting at least or two of these in any form would be a great addition. The games can provide key developmental encouragement such as color sorting and association, shape sorting, object association, and counting. If you’re babes are like mine they will enjoy the small challenges that are in these games.
3. Letter Quiz App – $ One- time fee or FREE Lite Version/ Age: 2+
This is a simple letter tracing app! The reason that I like this one though is because it allows you to be more precise and it allows for mistakes. Some tracing apps give you this general area to follow and as long as you are somewhere in the area you get it “right” and the letter looks perfect. Whenever you trace with Letter Quiz even when you finish a letter you are able to see the true lines that your babe created. I think this creates a more realistic growth opportunity! They can see that it’s not the same as the letters that they are learning and it encourages them to become more and more detailed!
This app has a lite version, but I recommend the full as it opens up opportunity for letter flashcards, lowercase/uppercase matching, and more!
4. Bob Books App – $ One-Time Fee, Might have a FREE Lite Version to try, Age: 3+
This is another app that I purchased as a package deal! I decided to go for it because I loved the physical Bob books that my babes have used. It’s an excellent app to increase your kiddos reading skills! With practice, this app will aid your reader with letter sound recognition and break down words in sentences, and fill in the letter problems. Plus you can increase the difficulty level as your kiddo advances!
5. Smart Baby Sorter App – $ One-Time Fee or FREE Lite Version/ Age: 1+
My littlest babes have LOVED this app. It’s so simple, and is what it sounds like! In this app you are sorting colors, animals, shapes, sizes, and etc. It’s perfect for the beginner or as soon as they can point! (You can help your littles, and get excited when they move the object to the correct section.) My bigger kids have lost interest in this one, but my 2 year old still loves it! Also, I think it also is associated with a *bundle type if you want a few similar games. The one has always been enough for us though!
6. New City Catechism App – FREE/ Age: 2+
This app is for the Christian mama or dada trying to get their little learning about the Bible. The app pairs a question with an answer all in the form of a short, catchy song! It’s very simple to use. You’ll see the song option in the bottom right corner when you choose which part you want. You also will have the option to read a short commentary and a bible verse too! Listen, these are truly catchy, and you’re little will be singing along to scripture in no time!
7. Khan Academy Kids App – FREE/ Age: 2+
Khan kids is another interactive app. It almost reminds me of ABC mouse with it’s interactive sections that are definitely school-y. The app has tracing, word recognition, rhyming, and more! It’s super cute and FREE! The little characters are so cute, and the graphics seem well done! (Not being a graphics queen myself, you’ll have make your own call on that one!)
8. Elmo Loves ABC’s App- $ One-Time Fee or FREE Lite Version/ Age: 2+
Who doesn’t love Elmo, right? Puppets, y’all. I don’t know what it is, but my kiddos love puppets. And of course, Sesame Street themed _fill in the blank_ is still everywhere! Even though we rarely watch Sesame Street, my kiddos still know the characters from Sesame Street’s awesome marketing even before we had the app! The app has cute videos and songs associated with each letter of the alphabet, and is sure to have your kiddo busting their own moves too!
9. First Words Deluxe App – $ One-Time Fee or FREE LiteVersion/ Age: 3+
Although we don’t use this as much as we do the other ones it’s still great for 5 minutes or so worth of spelling practice! It’s mostly 3-4 letter words that you can fill in with the correct letters! The app shows a picture, says the word, and then your babe fills the word with the provided letters! Great reading begins with practice like this!
So there you have it! Those are my family’s Top 9 Apps for Pre-K! They have all been tried and tested, loved and enjoyed! I hope that some of these can help supplement your learner, and help them feel encourage while being challenged in the most fun ways!
Adios!
